Just to update on the Linux front: I'm still primarily an Arch-er, but have now completely dropped the use of big desktop environments like KDE and GNOME, preferring instead Openbox as a window manager + specific supplementary programs such as fbpanel, lxappearance, lxtask etc; have also settled on wicd as my network manager. It took quite a bit of a time to adjust to a more minimal system, but the improved performance, lower memory usage, and simpler maintenance has more than repaid the investment.
On my Asus Eee PC 701 I'm running a stripped down version of Cruncheee - the Eee-specific variant of #! CrunchBang linux, based on Ubuntu 8.10. I often still drop into the MepisLovers forum and play around sometimes with AntiX in a VirtualBox vm. Haven't tried Mepis 8.0 yet, but will do when time permits.
Bye for now!
