OK, here goes. I am an urban forestry consultant by profession, a second career I started 15 years ago after a long stint as a professor of medieval literature and culture.
I had been pretty comfortable with word processing on computers in my first career, but then really tried to ramp up when I went back to school, thinking I would have to be competitive with youngsters in the field. Turns out, they were not that sophisticated after all, and I ended up being among the more knowledgeable.
I moved to Linux in 2003 with Mandrake, then switched to MEPIS a year later to solve my wireless problems and have been there ever since. I moved my business world to Linux a year ago, and now rarely use Windows. My involvement with MEPIS has been on the Forum, with the Wiki, and finally on the User's Manual. I was convinced that documentation was key, and that I could make a good contribution in that area.
Personally, my wife Martha and I have two children, a son in the DC area (with 5-yr old daughter), and a daughter in Minneapolis (with 3 yr-old daughter and 7 month old son). We have two dogs, lab mixes, that we got from the local shelter who keep us on our toes, and we live on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake not far outside Geneva NY.
