New MTT member saying hello and thank you

Postby Shadowtester on Wed Jan 28, 2009 10:28 am

I would like to introduce myself and give a little background as well as say Thank You to SilverBear for letting me join the Mepis Torrent Team.
My torrent box is a m-itx computer I use for usenet, bittorrent, and as a file server it has 2tb of available storage expandable with two open 3.5" sata drive bays. I am running Debian Etch and for bittorrent I just upgraded from rtorrent to Vuze with rtorrent I was starting to run into a problem with the quantity of available torrents eating up a substantial amount of bandwidth just communicating with the tracker. Vuze has a much better seeding que system which should reduce the amount of communication to the tracker reducing the bandwidth used and the load on the tracker. My internet connection is a DSL line with average speeds of 1.5mb downloads and 512kb uploads and I keep the server running 24/7 for seeding. I have been using Linux for about 1.5 years now as my primary OS at home however I just started using Mepis my previous distro of preference was Kubuntu. I will try to keep the current version of both 32bit and 64bit Simply Mepis torrents seeded at all times to help the community.

Yes, welcome aboard!

Gang: I have to make a public apology to Shadowtester. He was trying to join the group for over a week, I think it was. My own incompetence in following up on his registration/application to the Forum would have dissuaded a lesser man, I'm sure. But he hung in there, then nudged me with a patient reminder, for which I'm grateful. I'm already absolutely certain he's going to be a great asset to the team.

I just finished setting up a seeding box at work using a Buffalo Linkstation Pro running rtorrent to help seeding between my home and work I should have a little over 1 mbit upload speed 512kb at home and 768kb at work. I will keep both the 32 bit and 64 bit of the main Simply Mepis torrent seeding at both locations. If you want I could also seed other Mepis torrents as well please let me know of any you would like me to seed space is not a big issue with over 350mb available on the LSPro and at home I have over 1tb free without adding any additional drives to my NAS.
