Late June

Ahhh. . . Spring has gracefully moved into early Summer here on the eastern shore of Lake Erie in North America.

I have a couple orders of business to bring up before the membership. Respond here in a post, or via PM or email if you prefer.

I'm dragging a bit on keeping things rolling.

1] Just when it looked like the calendar was emptying out. . . the http://sblinux.org/antix antiX FAQ was done, my eldest (and only) daughter was married and off on her honeymoon, and it looked like 'twould be a lazy summer floatin' down the Swannee River, what with no Mepis User's Manual like last summer. . .

My main man in the world of Torrents, Mark Angeli, has decided to restyle LinuxTracker.org. He got a graphic artist to do a new design, and somehow I was moonstruck to volunteer to "make it so" in XHTML and .css. I hope to conclude that project within another few days.

2] That wasn't enough. Long-time MepisLover and Ubuntuista Johny Utah decided that the official Kubuntu forum wasn't going to change to suit him. . . so he started KubuntuWay.net. Guess who is limping along as a Mod on that site. . .

Fact is, I'm happy about it! Ubuntu Warty Warthog was my first Linux distro, and Breezy was my third, and I signed up to alpha-test Dapper, so Ubu and I go back a ways. Fact is, though, I've been estranged from the Canonical Life since Xubuntu 7.10. Fact is, Kubuntu never had the stability Mepis has had. . . sorry if I offend, but when Mepis 6.0 and 6.5 were around, Kubuntu really had nothing to offer whatsover, IMNSHO.

With Kubu 8.04, I think that's changed. And I'm happy to be willingly drawn back to a closer acquaintance with the Ubuntu family of Linux. So if you're Kubuntu --or just KDE-- fan material, come on over and see if you fit in at KubuntuWay.net.

3] I'm thinking of using this forum section as a sort of blog. . . but then, again, maybe I should just start a blog. What I'm working on, what problems I'm having, what dragons I've slain. . . the usual, y'know.

What I'm proposing is that if anyone else is feeling the need to do a Linux blog, let me know and I'll see if I can set you up here at SBLinux.org.
Free of charge, of course!

:)

forum or blog?

Postby cowonjolt on Fri Jul 04, 2008 1:15 pm

Silverbear, I meant to put in my 2 cents when you first posted this but better late than never. I like this forum you started but also find the blog idea interesting also so I guess my vote is for a combined forum/blog. I looked up what wikipedia defines as a blog and a forum and found they are very simular in nature. It would be interesting if the forum worked like a open central hub linking to other forums and information sources across the broad community of Linux users and featuring a blog for general discussion of them all. Also; a poll for these questions might be appropriate. Take care, cowonjolt
